While Project IDEA team develops its own tools for disinformation tracking and extraction, we suggest the following open source tools to consider. Our team is also using these tools and will periodically publish results.

Potential Sources of Disinformation from Russian news and media outlets

TV shows:
  • Vesti (Вести) – informational program about news, politics, economics, social life.
  • 60 minutes (60 минут) – socio-political talk show. In each program, both foreign policy topics (problems, events) and Russian ones are discussed with its participants (guests from Russia and other countries).
Channels: 
  • Channel One (Первый канал) – all-Russian federal TV channel. Positioned as the main TV channel of the country. Releases regular news and socio-political talk shows.
  • Russia 24 (Россия 24) – all-Russian propaganda informational 24-hour TV channel. It is the main channel for spreading Russian propaganda.
  • Russia Today (RT) –  a Russian propaganda state-owned multilingual television company aimed at a foreign audience. Positions itself as a news channel. The announced goals of the television company are: to present the Russian state government’s point of view on international events to the public and reduce the influence of stereotypes about Russia, “balancing Western media.”
  • Euronews Russian – russian-language version of the European 24-hour information TV channel Euronews.
News agency: 
  • RIA News (РИА Новости) – brand of Russian state propaganda media conglomerate. Publish news about different topics: politics, economics, daily life.
  • KP.Ru (Комсомольская правда) – daily Russian newspaper.
  • Lenta.Ru (Лента RU) – is a Russian-language online newspaper. 
  • Vesti.Ru (Вести RU) – website of the TV program “Vesti” and the radio station “Vesti FM”. On July 8, 2022, against the backdrop of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Vesty.ru was added to Canada’s sanctions list as a platform for disinformation and propaganda.
  • Gazeta.Ru (Газета RU) –  Russian online-publication.
  • InterFax.Ru(Интерфакс) – Russian news agency.
